Getting Ready for Your Weight-Loss Consultation

A practical checklist for completing our online consultation, explaining your health history and considering your treatment options.

Quick Answer

At RX Direct, we operate online. Our weight-loss service starts with an online consultation form so a prescriber can assess your suitability for treatment. Use this weight-loss consultation checklist to gather your height and weight, medicines, health history and previous efforts. Answer accurately and ask about risks, follow-up and costs. Submitting the form or meeting a BMI threshold does not guarantee a prescription.

Start with Your Own Story

You do not need a perfect diet or a target dress size to complete the form. Explain how your weight has changed, what concerns you and what support you need. NICE recommends considering previous efforts, experiences and things that make change difficult when choosing care. These details help your prescriber understand your circumstances.

You might want to walk more comfortably or fit meals around shift work. Explain why an earlier plan was too expensive or left you hungry. That tells our clinicians more than calling it a failure.

Your Preparation Checklist

  • Write down your recent height and weight, including when you measured them.
  • List prescribed medicines, shop-bought medicines, supplements and any allergies.
  • Note your health conditions and any previous weight-management treatment.
  • Describe earlier attempts, what helped and what was hard to maintain.
  • Explore your goals and the practical support you would find useful.

Keep these notes handy while completing the online form. If a question is unclear, contact us at RX Direct rather than guessing. Include concerns you find difficult to explain so the prescriber can consider them.

Understand What BMI Can Tell You

Body mass index, usually shortened to BMI, compares your weight with your height. It helps clinicians assess weight-related health risks, but it cannot separate muscle from fat. Other details, including your health conditions and background, matter too. The NHS explanation of overweight and obesity describes these limits.

Being above a particular BMI does not automatically mean a medicine is suitable. NHS access and private prescribing have different requirements, and NHS availability can depend on the medicine, care setting and local arrangements. Ask your GP about local support if you want to explore NHS care. A private assessment still needs to check safety and suitability.

Reach out to our team if you have questions about eligibility before submitting your form. Ask which criteria apply to the treatment you are considering. Avoid changing or estimating measurements to match an advertised cut-off.

A clearer understanding of BMI can help you frame questions about your measurements and the limits of a single number.

Discuss the Plan Around Any Medicine

Weight-management care may include help with eating, activity and changing habits. Some people may also be offered medication or specialist care. NICE recommends assessing dietary, activity and behavioural approaches before considering medicines, and continuing that support alongside treatment. The consultation should help you understand where a medicine would fit into your wider plan.

Medicines work in different ways. Semaglutide can reduce appetite and help you feel fuller. Orlistat reduces how much dietary fat your body absorbs. Each has its own criteria, instructions and risks; a brand name alone does not tell you whether it is right for you.

If you are considering using Wegovy, the Wegovy Pill or Mounjaro, your health history and treatment instructions matter more than a familiar brand name. The MHRA approved the Wegovy tablet in June 2026. Approval does not guarantee stock or NHS access. Daily tablets and weekly injections have different instructions and are not interchangeable without a prescriber’s advice.

Understanding how Wegovy works and how Mounjaro works can help you ask how each option fits your health history and care plan. If a daily tablet is being considered, ask about taking the Wegovy Pill correctly, including the timing instructions for your treatment.

Discuss Doses and the Full Cost

Mounjaro’s licensed adult starting dose is 2.5 mg weekly for four weeks, followed by 5 mg weekly. Further increases are for your prescriber to decide, with at least four weeks at each dose. Do not move up a dose yourself. The table shows our listed price for a quantity of one pen, which contains four weekly doses.

Mounjaro Prices Checked on 7 October 2026
Weekly Dose Place in the Plan One-Pen Price
2.5 mg Starting dose £139
5 mg After the starting dose £165
7.5 mg Further step, if prescribed £209
10 mg Further step, if prescribed £245
12.5 mg Further step, if prescribed £270
15 mg Maximum licensed adult dose £290

Prices can change. Confirm the current amount, delivery charges and any review fees with us before ordering. A four-dose pen covers four weeks; it is not the same as a calendar month. Your plan may not require every dose shown. If you are considering staying on a lower Wegovy dose, ask your prescriber how dose reviews apply to your circumstances.

Plan Meals You Can Keep Eating

A smaller appetite does not remove the need for a balanced diet. The NHS Eatwell Guide includes fruit and vegetables, starchy foods, protein foods, dairy or alternatives, and small amounts of unsaturated fats. It describes balance across a day or week, rather than demanding that every plate looks the same.

Tell the clinician about food allergies, a diet recommended for a medical condition or foods you cannot tolerate. Cultural preferences, your budget and who does the cooking also affect what is realistic. NICE advises tailoring dietary approaches to the person and providing support to maintain changes.

  • Describe an ordinary day of eating in your form, without trying to make it sound healthier.
  • Explain which meals are hardest to organise around work or caring responsibilities.
  • Ask how to keep meals balanced if treatment makes eating difficult.
  • Discuss whether you need individual advice from a registered dietitian.
  • Ask for help before attempting a very restrictive eating plan.

Low-energy diets, which sharply reduce how much you eat, need a suitable plan and clinical supervision. Do not assume that eating as little as possible will make treatment work better. Ask what a suitable approach looks like for your health and circumstances.

Choose Movement That Fits Your Starting Point

Activity has health benefits beyond changes on the scales. NHS guidance for adults aged 19 to 64 recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate activity, or 75 minutes of vigorous activity, each week, plus strengthening activities on at least two days. These are general goals to work towards, with activity suited to your fitness and health.

If you have not exercised for some time, or have a medical condition or concern, speak to your GP before starting. Describe what you can comfortably do now. A plan that takes pain, fatigue or limited mobility into account is more useful than a list of exercises you cannot manage.

  • Ask whether short walks or adapted exercise suit your starting point.
  • Discuss strength activities you can manage safely at home.
  • Plan breaks from sitting during work or long journeys.

The NHS activity guidance explains these goals. The British Heart Foundation’s weight-loss medicine guide also explains why balanced eating and activity remain part of care.

Talk About Sleep, Routines and Difficult Days

The NHS notes that sleep, eating, activity and how you feel can all affect weight management. If tiredness means you rarely cook, or irregular shifts make meals unpredictable, say so. These details can help you and the clinician choose changes that fit your week.

  • Choose one reliable lunch you can prepare around your usual routine.
  • Think about a drink swap you would be comfortable repeating.
  • Ask someone you trust what practical support they can offer.

If you have an eating disorder, or have had one before, speak to a healthcare professional before changing your diet or activity. Mention concerns about restrictive eating or feeling out of control around food. You deserve advice that takes this into account.

Raise Pregnancy Plans and Contraception Early

GLP-1 medicines are a group of medicines used for diabetes and, for some products, weight management. They should not be taken during pregnancy, while trying to become pregnant or during breastfeeding. Discuss pregnancy plans before treatment; the time needed between stopping a medicine and trying to conceive depends on the product.

If you take Mounjaro and use the contraceptive pill, MHRA guidance advises adding a barrier method, such as condoms, for four weeks after starting and for four weeks after each dose increase. An alternative is switching to a non-oral method after discussing it with a healthcare professional.

Ask your clinician to explain the advice for your medicine and contraception. If you become pregnant while taking one of these medicines, stop it and contact a healthcare professional promptly.

Know Which Symptoms Need Urgent Help

Ask about common side effects and what to do if they make eating or drinking difficult. Vomiting and diarrhoea can lead to dehydration. Your clinician should explain when to contact the service and when to seek urgent help.

The MHRA strengthened its pancreatitis warning in January 2026. This is a safety warning, not a prediction of what will happen to you.

  • Seek urgent medical help for sudden loss of vision or rapidly worsening eyesight while taking semaglutide.
  • Tell the surgical or anaesthetic team about GLP-1 treatment before a procedure.
  • Ask for advice if vomiting or diarrhoea makes it difficult to stay hydrated.

Questions about Wegovy side effects may include what to do if treatment makes eating or drinking difficult. Follow your own prescriber’s instructions when symptoms occur.

Questions to Ask Before You Decide

Use these questions when contacting us before or after completing the form. Ask for a clearer explanation if needed; services can differ between providers.

  • Why is this option suitable for my health history and goals?
  • What benefits could I reasonably expect, and what remains uncertain?
  • Which side effects should prompt a call, urgent advice or stopping treatment?
  • When will you review my progress and how well I am coping with treatment?
  • What will I pay for medicine, reviews, delivery and any additional support?
  • Who can I contact between reviews, and when is that support available?
  • What is the plan if treatment is unsuitable, unavailable or too expensive to continue?

Write down the answers and next steps. Check who arranges the next review and how you will hear about it. If information is missing, ask whether the assessment should wait. A headline price is not enough to plan your budget: keep a written breakdown of the costs and what is included.

Complete the Online Form Carefully

To get a GLP-1 medicine privately, you need a consultation with a healthcare professional before a prescription can be issued. Avoid social-media sellers, beauty salons and services offering these medicines without assessment. Use a registered pharmacy and check the registration through the relevant regulator, rather than relying on a badge in an advert.

Answer online health questions accurately and include medicines prescribed elsewhere. If you are already receiving weight-management treatment, explain that before requesting anything new. Do not switch products without advice.

Our online weight-loss consultation form lets you provide health details for a prescriber to assess suitability. Contact us with questions about costs and follow-up. The form is an assessment step; submitting it does not mean treatment has been approved.

Use the Weight Loss Calculator as a Conversation Starter

This calculator provides estimates for discussion. It cannot predict your results, assess medicine suitability or replace a consultation. Ask your prescriber about any figures you do not understand. You can continue reading without entering information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Someone Help Me Complete the Form?

A relative, friend or carer can help you read questions or organise information if you choose. Your answers must reflect your own health and circumstances. Keep account details private, and contact us if you need support completing the form. Do not let someone guess answers or submit inaccurate information for you.

What If I Need Communication Support?

Contact our team before completing the form if you need help understanding questions, large-print information or another adjustment. Ask what support is available. Check that any instructions you receive are in a format you can use comfortably.

Should My GP Know About a Private Prescription?

Ask the private prescriber how information will be shared with your GP and what consent is needed. Keeping the clinicians involved in your care informed helps them review medicines together. Do not assume that an online order automatically updates your NHS record.

What If I Miss a Mounjaro Dose?

The patient leaflet says to take a missed dose within four days. If more than four days have passed, skip it and use the next dose on your usual day. Leave at least three days between doses. Never double up. These instructions do not apply to every weight-loss product; check your own leaflet.

How Do I Plan for Travel With Treatment?

Ask your pharmacist about the storage instructions for your exact product before travelling. Check airline and destination rules, and whether you need a prescription copy or letter. Make a plan for delays and temperature control. Do not assume that different pens or tablets have the same storage limits.

What Should I Do With Used Injection Equipment?

Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of the pen and needles safely and how to obtain a suitable sharps container. Follow the product’s instructions and local collection arrangements. Do not try to extract medicine left in a used Mounjaro pen or share equipment with another person.

What If My Next Supply Is Delayed?

Contact us before you run out and ask for a clear plan. Explain when your next dose is due and what supply remains. Do not buy from an unverified seller, borrow someone else’s medicine or restart at a previous dose after a break without advice.

Discuss Your Weight-Management Options with Us

Complete our online weight-loss consultation form so a prescriber can assess suitability. Give accurate health details and ask about costs and support. A prescription is not guaranteed.
